The breakfast was founded in 2002 to provide attendees the opportunity to connect before joining the Martin Luther King Jr. March, educate communities about the life and contributions of Bayard Rustin, Audre Lorde and other activists, and enhance mutual support and continued learning among those involved in social justice efforts.

The 9th annual Atlanta Bayard Rustin-Audre Lorde Breakfast will feature a conversation among veteran gay and lesbian organizers about black lgbtq organizing in Atlanta in the 80's and 90's.
